  • May 21, 2025

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Randy Crowder, a former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman and father of ex-linebacker and broadcaster Channing Crowder, has died at the age of 72, the team announced Wednesday.

Crowder played for the Dolphins from 1974 to 1976 and later spent three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Over his six-year NFL career, he appeared in 71 games with 35 starts and recorded 19 sacks.

“We are saddened by the passing of former Dolphins player Randy Crowder,” the team said in a post on social media.

Crowder played college football at Penn State before joining the Dolphins as a sixth-round draft pick in 1974.

Channing Crowder also played linebacker for the Dolphins and now co-hosts the “Hochman and Crowder” radio show on WQAM alongside Marc Hochman.

No cause of death was immediately released.
