CARTHAGE, Ill. — Illini West girls basketball continued its solid January play on Thursday night, defeating conference rival Farmington 57-18.

Since the start of the new year, Illini West has won four out of its last five games.

After leading 9-7 after a quarter of play, the Chargers put up 20 points in the second quarter to take a 29-11 lead to halftime. Illini West outscored Farmington by a 28-11 margin in the second half.

Illini West senior Lanie Housewright scored a team-high 16 points and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers.

Kennedy Gunning racked up nine points for the Chargers, while Natalie Wibbell chipped in seven points and Alivia Frazier finished with six points.

Up next for Illini West (8-10) is the Jerry Logan Shootout, which they will host on Monday. The Chargers will face West Central Winchester (12-7) at 6:30 p.m.
