Like everyone else, Jacksonville Jaguars’ GM James Gladstone was impressed with Trevor Lawrence’s growth and play over the course of the 2025 NFL season.

“I was really impressed,” Gladstone said of Lawrence on Wednesday. “I think back to the offseason program, there was a learning curve obviously, and the one thing that was very clear throughout that sort of window of the cycle was his interest in making sure the operation was clean, and he was going through step by step to make sure that he was learning the right way and pouring in the right way.

“And you could see a turn in the second week of training camp where he began not just learning but testing. Testing what could work, what could fit, all those sorts of things.”

As is going to be the case when implementing a new offense, there is going to be a learning curve for everyone, especially at the quarterback position. Adding to that is the complexity of Liam Coen’s offense.

We saw the growing pains that Lawrence and the offense went through, but during the second half of the season, it is like a switch was flipped. Lawrence’s comfort in the offense was evident and his command pre-snap was a big contributor to the post-snap success he had.

As the Jaguars put together an eight-game winning streak to close out the regular season, the offense — led by Lawrence — averaged almost 33 points per game during that span.

Lawrence, specifically, ranked fourth among all quarterbacks in total passing yards in that stretch of games, per PFF.

He was also third in yards per pass attempt, second in passing touchdowns, and had the fifth-lowest turnover-worthy play rate. We also saw Lawrence make a lot of plays with his legs.

“Just generally zooming out away from just Trevor,” Gladstone added, “it’s the idea that you know teams that teams can be built over the course of an offseason is true, but the good ones, the great ones, they evolve over the course of the regular season. And you saw that evolution with Trevor over the course of the regular season.

“There was a clear uptick in command, control, comfort, playmaking, all that stuff jumped out in a real way, and I look forward to being able to have him carry that momentum into the offseason here.”

The 2026 season will be Year 2 in Coen’s offense, which should provide a jumping-off point for Lawrence and the rest of this unit to take another step with a strong foundation now in place.
