The Washington Commanders have given fans a first glimpse of their stunning new 70,000-seater stadium that is set to cost nearly $4billion.
The state-of-the-art arena, tentatively slated to open in 2030, has been the subject of controversy after reports emerged that Donald Trump wants the stadium named in his honor.
The Commanders are set to move from their current home, Northwest Stadium in Landover, back to the site of their old Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium.
Washington played there for 36 seasons and the first renderings of their new indoor home were released this week.
Images show the stadium sitting a couple of miles down the street from the iconic Capitol building and National Mall.Â
And back in November, it emerged that the White House had held informal talks with the Commanders ownership group, which is led by Josh Harris.

Trump reportedly wants the stadium to bear his name and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told ESPN: ‘That would be a beautiful name, as it was President Trump who made the rebuilding of the new stadium possible.’
Back in April, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced – alongside Harris and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser – that the team’s new stadium would be built in Washington.
A few months later, however, the president vowed to block the stadium’s construction if the team did not change its name from Commanders to its previous name, the Redskins.
Former Washington owner Dan Snyder dropped the Redskins name in 2020 amid concerns it is offensive.
The Commanders claim their new $3.7b arena will become ‘a dynamic, year-round destination for sports, entertainment and community.’Â
It is being designed by HKS, which also designed other NFL arenas including SoFi Stadium (Rams and Chargers), US Bank Stadium (Vikings) and AT&T Stadium (Cowboys).Â
