It remains to be seen if the Buffalo Bills get a star defender back in Ed Oliver ahead of facing the Denver Broncos in the AFC divisional round.
The Bills (12-5) visit the Broncos (14-3) on Saturday. While Oliver been out since Week 8 because of a bicep injury and later a knee problem while rehabbing, a player of Oliver’s caliber can still be a boost.
Oliver is still on Buffalo’s injured reserve list but the team opened his practice window this week and he’s been working out with teammates.
Head coach Sean McDermott is not one to show his hand to an opponent if he doesn’t have to. He was status quo and provided little update on Oliver this week.
“I thought he handled it appropriately,” McDermott said via video conference about Oliver. “He loves to play. There’s a process that leads to playing and he’s worked hard at it.”

Oliver has been eager to return since he landed on IR… but Oliver did hint this week he was hopeful to play in Denver.
“We’ll see,” Oliver said. “I just started walking through the day. So, we’ll see. I’m optimistic. I’m excited, but I don’t know yet.”
Oliver would still need to be added to the Bills’ 53-man roster if he does play against the Broncos. As of posting, Oliver is listed as “questionable” on Buffalo’s injury report.
