The Tennessee Titans, like several other teams, went after John Harbaugh hard. The news that he was getting hired by the New York Giants on Thursday crushed those hopes and dreams, although the deal is still not finalized.

The Titans were so invested in bringing Harbaugh to Nashville that they had a plane ready to go, and Mike Borgonzi, Chad Brinker, and Amy Adams Strunk were ready to fly to Baltimore to meet with him.

They never got the chance to go, though, as it was announced the Giants were going to hire Harbaugh, and the interview was canceled.

In his 18 seasons as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, Harbaugh missed the playoffs just six times. His overall record is 180-113 in the regular season and 13-11 in the playoffs, including a Super Bowl win. Ten of his assistants have gone on to become head coaches, including Rex Ryan, Hue Jackson, Chuck Pagano, and Mike Macdonald.

Known as one of the best coaches of the modern era, Harbaugh simply wore out his welcome in Baltimore. The length of time he spent there, plus the recent revelation that he and Lamar Jackson do not get along, were factors in his dismissal from the team. With a fresh start in a new home, Harbaugh is likely to find success again.

Right now, it seems that home will be New York, but until a deal is signed, every team looking for a head coach is holding out hope that the deal falls through and he remains an avaialable coaching candidate.
