The Philadelphia Eagles have Jalen Hurts is less than a year removed from winning Super Bowl MVP, and yet, there are rumblings about him getting replaced this offseason.
From a production standpoint, Hurts had a fine 2025 season. The two-time Pro Bowler completed 64.8% of his passes for 3,224 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. What’s bizarre though is that he only had 105 rushing attempts, his lowest total since his rookie year.

Hurts, 28, is currently on a five-year, $255 million contract. His cap hit for the 2026 season is set to be $31.97 million. Although he’s been very productive in Philadelphia, it sounds like the front office is considering backup plans for the quarterback position.
According to Mike Silver of The Athletic, people around the league wouldn’t be shocked if Eagles general manager Howie Roseman selects a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft. That’s because Hurts has been the source of “internal frustration” in Philadelphia.
“Some NFL sources familiar with the Eagles’ organizational mindset believe they draft a quarterback this spring,” Silver wrote.

Obviously, the Eagles won’t have a chance to draft Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. They could possibly make a run at Carson Beck, Trinidad Chambliss and other upperclassmen.

If you pay attention to the recent history of the Eagles, they’ve shown they’re not afraid to draft quarterbacks.
In 2025, the Eagles used a sixth-round pick on Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord. Two years earlier, they selected former Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee with the 188th overall pick.

One year prior to the Eagles selecting Hurts with the 53rd pick, they burned a Day 3 pick on Clayton Thorson from Northwestern.
Do we expect the Eagles to replace Hurts this offseason? No, but we simply can’t rule it out. Their front office has proven they’re not afraid to move off from players the second they start to decline.
