One of the biggest storylines to follow this offseason in the NFL ranks will be the drama unfolding in Cleveland, where the Browns are trying to figure out their quarterback plan.

With Deshaun Watson on the mend, the Browns brought in both Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco as veterans of their quarterback room. They then did the unthinkable, taking both Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL draft.

Now they’ve got an offseason to figure out what to do with these options.

While Sanders was considered by many to be the better quarterback prospect in the draft, the Browns took Gabriel a couple of rounds before him, which would lead you to believe that they are higher on his potential in head coach Kevin Stefanski’s offense.

According to a recent report from Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, that might be the case.

Pickett will take the first OTAs reps, with Gabriel stepping in behind him. The order beyond that is unknown now, but Gabriel will undoubtedly have a shot to prove himself early on with his NFL team. Of course, whether or not he can win the job outright this summer is yet to be seen.

Even if Gabriel eventually is named the starter, the crowded QB room makes for controversy waiting to happen. At the first slip-up, fans and media members will call for Sanders to get a chance, regardless of who is the incumbent starter.
