MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins bringing back offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg this offseason was a hot topic of debate.

Eichenberg struggled as a starter at right guard in 2024 and, by season’s end, was part of a platoon at the position with Isaiah Wynn.

Dolphins offensive line coach Butch Barry touched on what the coaching staff values in Eichenberg, when he spoke to the media during offseason workouts on Wednesday.

“He’s a glue in the room,” Barry said. “Does an unbelievable job with the whole room, doing an unbelievable job with younger players. He’s a leader by nature in terms of how to do the standard of work. He can play a lot of different positions, has multiplicity, and I think that’s very important.”

Miami brought Eichenberg, a 2021 second-round pick, back as a free agent while also adding James Daniels from the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency and drafting Jonah Savaiinaea in the second round. So it will be a challenge for Eichenberg to hold on to a starting role in 2025 given the additions. Meanwhile, 2024 starting left guard Robert Jones went to the Dallas Cowboys in free agency.

If he doesn’t win a starting job, Eichenberg can still be a valuable reserve as someone who has started at all five positions on the line in his first four seasons with the Dolphins.
