Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was apparently disappointed to hear Los Angeles Chargers linebackers coach NaVorro Bowman will be stepping away from coaching ahead of the 2026 season.

Hill wrote Friday on X he had been hoping to see Bowman move up the NFL ranks and become a defensive coordinator in the future.

Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz said Thursday that Bowman would be stepping down from his position after two seasons in Los Angeles.

“For those of you that don’t know, his son is an elite hooper, and he wants to be a dad, and help guide him through the process of college and selecting college,” Hortiz said about Bowman.

Hortiz continued, “As a father, excited for Bow. As a general manager and a teammate of Bow’s here, I’m disappointed. I love him, and he did a great job, but I understand his thought process. So, we’ll miss him.”

The news comes ahead of the potential departure of Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, who has been interviewing for head coaching jobs with the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns.

Bowman spent seven seasons and earned three All-Pro nods in the NFL as a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders from 2010 to 2017.

After spending one season as a defensive analyst at Maryland, Bowman joined the Chargers ahead of Jim Harbaugh’s first season in 2024.

He helped develop players including Daiyan Henley, who has developed into a key player for the Bolts over the last two seasons.

Should Bowman eventually come back to coaching, his timeline for a return to the NFL could potentially depend on the development of his son’s basketball career.

NaVorro Bowman Jr. is a class of 2027 prospect playing for Notre Dame High School in California. He is considered the No. 37 overall prospect, No. 2 Californian prospect and No. 5 combo guard in his class, according to 247Sports composite rankings.
