As the NFL is eyeing the start of the 2025 season in August, teams across the league have begun offseason practices.

There have been plenty of dramatic scenarios played out between players and their teams regarding contracts, and a lot of big names have made their wants very public.

Teams like the Cincinnati Bengals and, more recently, the Washington Commanders have faced situations where key players are seeking long-term contracts as they plan for the future.

Although the Commanders were able to trade for former 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the offseason and find a mutual agreement on a contract of his own, another receiver on the team is ready to get paid.

Terry McLaurin sits out of offseason practice on Wednesday

The Commanders are coming off a surprising season where rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels was able to lead the team to an NFC Championship game.

Washington’s lead-receiver in 2024 and one of the best wideouts in the league in Terry McLaurin wasn’t present at Wednesday’s offseason practice and it’s believed that it could be because of his contract situation.

Mclaurin is heading into the upcoming season with an expiring contract.

After signing a three-year, $68.3 million extension with Washington in 2022, McLaurin’s been able to stay consistent throughout the contract.

He’s compiled five straight 1,000 receiving yard seasons and it seems that he’s deserving of another extension before the start of this upcoming season.

Since being drafted in the third round (76th overall) in the 2019 NFL Draft, McLaurin has played through the highs and the lows of the Commanders organization.

He’s caught passes from 11 different quarterbacks in a six-year span before Washington drafted quarterback Jayden Daniels in 2024.

His steady performance and patience during the Commanders’ rebuild should be a key consideration for Washington’s front office while negotiating with the 29-year-old receiver.
