Game time and weather

Kickoff for the game is set for 3 p.m.

At kickoff, temperatures will be in the 30s and light snow showers or flurries are possible.

By the third quarter, light to moderate snow is expected, and there could be some accumulation on the field.

The snow will possibly lead to slippery road conditions in and around Foxborough.

For Granite Staters traveling to gatherings for the game, expect potentially difficult travel conditions, especially in southeastern New Hampshire close to the coastline.

How we got here

The Patriots are coming off 16-3 win against the Los Angeles Chargers last week. It was second-year quarterback Drake Maye’s first win in his first-ever playoff game.

Now, New England gets a tough test as the Houston Texans come to town. Houston and its ferocious defense are coming off a 30-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.

New England did not play the Texans this season, but they were matched up with them in October 2024, a 41-24 loss for the Patriots. Maye finished with 243 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in that game. He also led the team in rushing with 38 yards.

On the other side of the ball, Houston started the season 3-5 but finished with nine straight wins to close the season. They are led by QB C.J. Stroud, who passed for 3,041 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Houston’s defense allowed the lowest opponent yardage total and the second-fewest points in the NFL.

Injuries

For the Patriots, no players are listed is out. LB Harold Landry is questionable with a knee injury, while RB Terrell Jennings is questionable as he is in the concussion protocol.

For the Texans, they are without their best offensive player in WR Nico Collins, who is out with a concussion. Fellow WR Justin Watson is also missing the game with a concussion. Meanwhile, offensive tackle Trent Brown is questionable with an ankle injury.
