HC Candidate’s Season Ends

Maybe it’s best for the Steelers’ head coach candidates to make it deep in the playoffs to further prove their coaching mettle, but there are selfish reasons to root for an earlier exit. With three candidates in the divisional round, the Steelers had a short window to request virtual interviews before NFL rules disallowed interviews until elimination from the postseason. That would mean potentially delaying the search until Feb. 9 to interview some of the top candidates if their teams made it to the Super Bowl.

One is now freed up with San Francisco 49ers OC Klay Kubiak free for in-person interviews effective immediately. His 49ers lost 41-6 to the Seattle Seahawks. If you’re worried about the blowout loss for his squad, it’s not his fault that the Seahawks returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown or that the offense turned the ball over three times. Execution matters.

We will know shortly whether Nate Scheelhaase and Chris Shula are available with the LA Rams playing Sunday night. If they lose, then the Steelers will have full access to all of their candidates by Monday morning.

Former Steeler Predicts Big Roster Changes

With one of the oldest rosters in the NFL and a complete cleaning of house on the coaching staff, the significant offseason changes have only just begun. Former Steelers DL Breiden Fehoko predicts the roster could change dramatically with some cornerstone players moving on.

“Wouldn’t be surprised to see [a] few cornerstone Steelers either retire or ask for a trade,” Fehoko wrote on X.

There has already been plenty of speculation on guys like Cameron Heyward and T.J. Watt. And Aaron Rodgers is a free agent not expected to return. Who else could surprise this offseason?

Bill Nunn Honored

The Black Sportswriters Hall of Fame announced its 2026 induction class, and with it a list of pioneer honorees. That list included former Steelers scout and Hall of Famer Bill Nunn. He was a sportswriter for The Pittsburgh Courier before the Steelers hired him as a scout. His knowledge and influence within the HBCU programs helped the Steelers to build a dynasty from lesser-known prospects around the country, like Mel Blount and John Stallworth.
