Titans interview eight more candidates for head coach opening

  • January 19, 2026

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Titans are swiftly progressing in their head coach search.

The team announced Sunday it has completed interviews with eight more candidates in the second week of the process.

This round included virtual interviews with Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Smith is a familiar name and face to Titans fans, having served as a Tennessee coach for ten seasons in various assistant roles before finishing as offensive coordinator in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Coming off two seasons as the offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh, Smith is in his 17th year coaching in the National Football League.

The Titans also interviewed five candidates in person this past week, all of which were previously head coaches. That list features former Falcons coach Raheem Morris, former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, former Giants coach Brian Daboll, former Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon and former Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy.

Additionally, the Titans had scheduled a Zoom interview with 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh for Sunday evening, but NFL insiders report, Tennessee collected enough information about Saleh in advance and opted to expedite the process by scheduling an in-person interview with him Monday.

Saleh previously served as the head coach of the New York Jets, and has been a popular candidate this coaching cycle.

Along with Saleh’s scheduled interview, the Titans will also bring in Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy Monday for a second-round interview.

Tennessee is also expected to talk to Packers DC Jeff Hafley in a second-round interview Tuesday.

NFL insiders report the Titans’ finalists for the job are Robert Saleh, Matt Nagy and Jeff Hafley.
