Bengals get an important free agent contract done early

The Cincinnati Bengals announced a smaller free-agent contract signing to start the week.

Small, yet important: The Bengals have re-signed tight end Tanner Hudson to a one-year contract extension.

Many fans wanted to hear the Bengals get a deal done with guard Dalton Risner first, and understandably so.

But don’t sleep on the Hudson deal.

Now 31 years old, Hudson has been with the Bengals since 2022 and made some important plays over the years. He’s key depth at a spot where Mike Gesicki is a big slot receiver and Drew Sample is more of a blocker.

That’s one position of need reinforced well before free agency or the draft. Noah Fant is a free agent, too, but they also have Erick All Jr. on his rehab journey and Cam Grandy.

With Hudson back in the fold, the Bengals have some robust depth at tight end and can fully focus elsewhere with their biggest resources.
