The Ravens’ front office will be one step closer to finding a new head coach this week as the second round of interviews will be held.It has the tough job of narrowing down a list of over 15 candidates to around a handful that it will host for in-person interviews this week. A couple of names have been considered favorites and it’s no surprise they got a second interview, while there may be some that may surprise some. It was a wide range of coaches that interviewed for the first round, from coordinators who had a cup of coffee as a head coach to a former quarterback with no coordinating experience. General Manager Eric DeCosta has cast a wide net in the first coaching search of his career and is looking to find the perfect fit for the next long-term coach of the Ravens. There have been a couple of interviews announced this week, but here is a look at who should be considered the finalist for one of the more coveted jobs of this cycle. Favorite: Anthony WeaverIf the Ravens decide to go in a defensive direction for the head coach, Weaver would be an obvious choice, as the former defensive lineman and coach is very familiar with the organization. He was a player for the Ravens in the early 2000s and was a part of the coaching staff from 2021-23. Weaver has multiple seasons as a defensive coordinator, most recently with the Miami Dolphins for the past two seasons. He also served in the position for the Houston Texans in 2020.Weaver has been a popular name among head coaching interviews over the past few cycles and this may be the time to give him the opportunity before another team does, like the Pittsburgh Steelers. His connection with the organization and relationships with players he has already been in the locker room with makes him an ideal candidate. His time in Miami could also be valuable as he has a connection with another attractive coaching candidate, Mike McDaniel, who was his head coach while with the Dolphins. If McDaniel does get a head coaching job in this cycle, Weaver may be able to convince him to join him in Baltimore. This would be the best scenario for the Ravens, who would have a new leader in the locker room that would command respect from the current and former Ravens as well as one of the brightest minds in the NFL on the offensive side. In the running: Jesse MinterAnother coach with a connection to the Ravens organization is defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. He is currently with the Los Angeles Chargers and has been with them since 2024. He has limited experience in the NFL with only two seasons as a coordinator after following Jim Harbaugh to the Chargers from the University of Michigan. He has made a name for himself for the past couple of seasons in L.A. as his defense gave up the fewest points in 2024, while finishing in the top five in yards allowed this past season.Minter got his start in the NFL with the Ravens in 2017 as a defensive assistant and worked his way up to defensive back coach in 2020. He worked alongside Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald during his time with the Ravens and followed his footsteps of success, including a stop at Michigan as coordinator before taking a NFL position. Minter is scheduled for his second interview with the Ravens this week. Many Ravens fans regret letting Macdonald go in 2024 and felt he would have been an ideal replacement for John Harbaugh. Now they may get a second chance to hire the next former Ravens defensive assistant to become a successful head coach.Intriguing name: Brian FloresThe Ravens’ front office has stated that it will look at candidates with head coaching experience that may not have worked out their first time around. Brian Flores would represent a commitment to the defensive side of the ball, as he is known for his aggressive blitz-heavy defenses. He was 28-29 in his three-year stint as head coach of the Miami Dolphins and may be poised to get a second chance after his tenure in Miami did not end well. His time in Miami was clouded by a poor relationship with his quarterback Tua Tagliaova and Dolphins ownership, who Flores said asked him to lose games intentionally according to a discrimination lawsuit filed against the NFL. The NFL has asked the Supreme Court to hear its appeal as it wants to keep it in arbitration and avoid the case proceeding to a jury. Flores would be an interesting fit here in Baltimore. He could be the answer to the lack of pass rush from the defense. He has found success as a coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings the past two seasons. Like Weaver, Flores is expected to have a second interview with division rival Steelers. Wild card: Joe BradyOne of the surprising names on the list to get a second interview is former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady. He is the second confirmed interview scheduled this week with the Ravens, coming after the shocking firing of his head coach Sean McDermott in Buffalo. Brady has been with the Bills since 2022 and is credited for helping quarterback Josh Allen win the MVP award in 2024. He helped the Bills find more balance on offense, taking them from a pass-heavy team to a team that had this season’s top rusher in James Cook.Brady could be a candidate in Buffalo as he has built a rapport with Allen and may want to stay in familiar surroundings. He would be an interesting move for the Ravens and could be an option for offensive coordinator if he’s looking for a change in scenery. Brady is the third second-round interview confirmed for this week.
