I love my dad, but sometimes he makes my life difficult, like when he decided to become a Miami Dolphins fan. Since the team’s inception in 1966, our family has been die-hard Phins Fans, much to our disappointment these past 25 years.

Now, the Dolphins enter a new era with head coach Jeff Hafley, who has strong ties to New York’s Capital Region.

Youth in Albany

Hafley is a Northeast guy. Born and raised in Montvale, New Jersey, this area of the country was his home through his college days. He played football as a Wide Receiver at Siena College from 1997 to 2000.

His days in the Capital Region didn’t end their, however. He ended up getting his masters at UAlbany in 2003, while working as a Running Backs coach at Worcester Polytechnic in 2001, and then as a Defensive Assistant (2002-2003) and Defensive Backs Coach (2004-2005) at UAlbany.

Looking Forward

Unfortunately, Hafley couldn’t stay here forever. He moved his way through smaller College Football programs until 2012, when he was brought on as the Assistant defensive backs coach at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He grew his career through the NFL, and eventually wound up as the Head Coach for Boston College from 2020 to 2023.

From there, he was picked upas the Defensive Coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, and found a rhythm of success there. It’s no surprise, then, that the second the spot opened up, the Miami Dolphins scooped him up as their Head Coach. Whether Hafley will bring prosperity back to Miami or not remains to be seen, but every Sunday when you look on the field, a Capital Region legend will be front and center.
