McMillan was the the No. 8 overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft out of the University of Arizona (Tucson, Arizona).
“McMillan is the first player in Carolina history to be selected as the PFWA’s Rookie of the Year and is the second Panthers player to be the PFWA’s offensive rookie of the year, joining quarterback Cam Newton, who won the award in 2011,” Kassidy Hill wrote in a Carolina Panthers Article.
Tetairoa McMillan’s 2025 Season
McMillan started all 17 games for the Carolina Panthers in 2025. The PFWA Rookie of the Year caught 70 passes on 122 targets for 1,014 yards and 7 touchdowns.
In addition, McMillan was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team showing that he could be a future star in the NFL.
“TMac, he was him,” Bryce Young is quoted as saying in Hill’s Article. “He was, he’s exactly who he’s been. He was elite; he’s a special player.”
“He’ll be the offensive rookie of the year,” Young added in the article. “I have all the confidence in the world, again, a special guy, stuff you can’t teach, and all the stuff that you can, he’s working super hard at, he’s working to perfect it, and cares about the craft. Again, a special guy. I’m super grateful that he’s on the team.”
The rookie wide receiver led the Carolina Panthers in receiving yards breaking the rookie franchise record previously held by Kelvin Benjamin.
McMillan will be favored to win the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, being the only rookie to finish with 1000 receiving yards in 2025.
“The only rookie to finish over 1,000 rushing or receiving yards did just enough to claim the [AP] Rookie of the Year nod for me,” Bill Barnwell wrote in an ESPN article. “McMillan reached 100 receiving yards only twice, but he was consistently the most impactful receiver in Carolina’s offense and the player Bryce Young looked to when the Panthers needed a big play.”
The Future Could Be Bright For The Carolina Panthers
Tetairoa McMillan is just one of the few young stars that the Panthers look forward to developing. Other players such as Bryce Young, Rico Dowdle, and Jaycee Horn all took a step forward in 2025.
Dowdle, who was previously with the Dallas Cowboys in 2024, rushed for over 1000 yards for the second straight season. Jaycee Horn led the team in interceptions with 5 and signed a four-year, $100 Million contract with the Panthers in 2025.
McMillan will be a proven target for Bryce Young for years to come. Young threw for 3,011 yards with 23 touchdowns and a 63.6 completion percentage.
“I feel like we have a strong foundation of guys. I think that they — it’s definitely something foundation-wise that we can definitely build upon,” Panthers General Manager Dan Morgan said during his end-of season press conference. “And that’s my job and my team’s job and the coach’s job and all of us collaborating together to bring the right guys and build this thing the right way.”
