The San Francisco 49ers‘ season is over and their preparations for the 2026 offseason have already begun
On Tuesday after locker room cleanout the 49ers announced 14 free agents to reserve/future contracts. All 14 players will be familiar for close followers of the 49ers since all 14 were on the practice squad to close the season.
Reserve/future deals put the player on track to join the 90-man offseason roster. It doesn’t guarantee any sort of place or edge in the hunt for a 53-man roster spot when training camp begins in late July.

There are a handful of intriguing names here who could be factors in the 53-man roster.
Defensive tackles Evan Anderson and Sebastian Valdez are worth keeping tabs on as the club figures out what the interior of its defensive line looks like in the future.
Quarterback Adrian Martinez will be an interesting name to watch as well after spending much of the year on the 49ers’ practice squad and serving as Mac Jones’s backup while Brock Purdy was out with a toe injury.
The other names that jump out are offensive lineman Drake Nugent who was an undrafted rookie in 2024 and may be in the mix for a reserve interior OL spot. Defensive back Derrick Canteen had a strong first training camp as a UDFA which could help him battle for a roster spot going into Year 2. Wide receiver Junior Bergen, a seventh-round pick in 2025, is a return specialist with some upside in a receiving corps that desperately needs an influx of athleticism
