The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to add players to the 90-man offseason roster, particularly in the trenches offensively.

On Monday, the Steelers announced that they signed second-year offensive lineman Sataoa Laumea to a reserve/futures contract.

The Steelers showed interest in the former Utah offensive lineman before the 2024 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh met with him virtually, but ultimately passed on drafting him. That allowed Laumea to land with the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round.

Laumeau started six games in 2024 for the Seahawks, playing 355 snaps at right guard. He looked like a guy who could be a dependable depth piece moving forward for Seattle. But Seattle cut him during final roster cuts this past August.

That allowed him to land with the New Orleans Saints, where he spent the first month of the season before being released on October 7.

A free agent, Laumea worked out for the Steelers on December 23, leading to his reserve/futures contract on Monday.

During his time in college at Utah, Laumea played 3,016 snaps for the Utes. He split time at both right tackle and right guard, holding down key spots on the line under head coach Kyle Whittingham. He went on to start 44 consecutive games for the Utes and played in the 2024 Senior Bowl in Mobile ahead of the draft.

With the Seahawks in 2024 in those 355 snaps, Laumea allowed 23 pressures and two sacks. This included a disastrous 10-pressure day against the Green Bay Packers. He committed four penalties during the season.

During this past preseason, Laumeau played 107 snaps for Seattle, allowing just four pressures while playing 78 snaps at left guard and 29 snaps at right guard. He didn’t see any action with the Saints and wasn’t elevated during his brief stint in the Big Easy.

With left guard Isaac Seumalo, reserve linemen Andrus Peat, Jack Driscoll, Max Scharping, and center Ryan McCollum set to hit free agency this offseason, the Steelers have been busy shoring up depth on the offseason roster for the time being. Along with Laumea, the Steelers have added Doug Nester, Steven Jones, and Aiden Williams to reserve/futures contracts so far.
