Bieniemy joined the Chiefs as a running backs coach in 2013. Head coach Andy Reid promoted him to offensive coordinator in 2018 after Nagy left to become head coach of the Chicago Bears following a two-year stint as the Chiefs offensive coordinator. Bieniemy successfully helped lead the Chiefs to two Super Bowl wins during his tenure as OC. He left the organization after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the Eagles in 2023. He then joined the Washington Commanders to be the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, but after his first season ended with a 4-13 record, the newly hired head coach went in a different direction. Bieniemy ended up with the Chicago Bears this season. It seems that the pattern of trading the offensive coordinator position between Nagy and Bieniemy could continue, should Bieniemy and the Chiefs come to an official agreement. It’s not yet clear if other candidates were being eyed for the role.
