Legendary USC football coach Steve Spurrier headlines 2026 SC Athletic Hall of Fame inductees

  • January 21, 2026

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Legendary University of South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier highlights the 2026 South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame inductees.

Spurrier was the head football coach at Carolina from 2005 to 2015, where he led the Gamecocks to an 86-49 record, giving him the most wins of any USC football coach.

The Gamecocks had three 11-win seasons under Spurrier and won five bowl games. The team also appeared in the SEC East Division Championship in 2010.

Spurrier was also responsible for all of the Gamecocks’ top-10 poll appearances and is the only football coach to beat the No. 1-ranked team in 2010, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

He retired from coaching during Carolina’s 2015 season.

Former Clemson women’s basketball head coach Jim Davis is also being inducted this year.

Davis served as head coach for 18 years and led the Tigers to 355 victories from 1987 to 2004.

During his tenure, the Lady Tigers made 16 postseason appearances, 14 NCAA tournament appearances, reached the NCAA Sweet 16 four times and the NCAA Elite Eight once.

The Lady Tigers also saw 11 top-25 seasons and 11 seasons with 20 or more wins.

Davis also notched 51 wins against top-25 opponents and coached 16 All-ACC players and four ACC 50-Year Anniversary players.

He is also a member of the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame.

Former SC State defensive back Dwayne Harper, an Orangeburg native, will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Harper intercepted 8 passes during his senior season, tying a team record at the time, and was named to the first-team All-MEAC.

He was drafted in the 11th round of the 1988 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Harper spent 12 years in the NFL; six with the Seahawks, five with the San Diego Chargers and one with the Detroit Lions.

In 148 career games, Harper was able to get 571 total tackles and had at least three interceptions in five of his seasons.

He is also a member of the MEAC Hall of Fame and S.C. State Football Hall of Fame.

Also being inducted this year are Coastal Carolina track and field athlete Amber Campbell, former USC defensive lineman Andrew Provence, Clemson pitcher Brian Barnes, Clemson publicist and radio analyst Tim Bourret, Greenwood native Armanti Edwards, Anderson native Saudia Roundtree, and former high school cross country and track coach Bob Jenkins.

The induction banquet is scheduled for May 18 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
