Mike McDaniel was supposed to spend Wednesday in his second-round interview with the Cleveland Browns. Instead, it appears the former Miami Dolphins head coach will go west.

McDaniel withdrew his name from consideration for the Browns Tuesday afternoon. By the evening, NFL Insider Tom Pelissero reported that the Los Angeles Chargers plan to hire McDaniel as their offensive coordinator.

“McDaniel is still a candidate for the Raiders and Ravens head coaching jobs,” Pelissero said on X. “But if McDaniel is an OC in 2026, it’s expected to be in L.A.”

Pelissero added that McDaniel has not signed a deal with the Chargers yet.

McDaniel became well-known for his offensive expertise while with the San Francisco 49ers as the team’s run game coordinator (2017-2020) and offensive coordinator (2021). He went 35-33 with the Dolphins and 0-2 in the postseason during his four seasons in Miami.

McDaniel interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans and the Browns for their head coaching vacancies. He also interviewed with the Detroit Lions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Chargers for a role as an offensive coordinator.
