WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. — The game was tied 17-17, and there was no time left in regulation. But thanks to an overtime game-changing interception from safety Kam Curl, the Los Angeles Rams gained possession for the second time in OT and got the ball down the field to set up kicker Harrison Mevis to take them home as winners with a made 42-yard field goal making the score 20-17 Los Angeles.
Today the Rams hung the photo of the game from this past weekend’s win in the second round of the playoffs against the Chicago Bears. Simply put, this picture is tough. Kam Curl and his fellow secondary players posing in the Bears endzone with the intercepted ball as the snow and frost overwhelmed Soldier Field. After every Rams win, a photo goes up outside of the locker room, so it was a no-brainer that this one was chosen after that win.
Curl knows that his ability to execute the way that he did is a huge part of the value that he adds to this team. “That’s why they brought me here. So, you know it just felt good to play my role and help the team win,” Curl putting it simply.
The L.A. safety is currently tied with Chicago safety Jaquan Brisker for first place in tackles in the post season amongst all of the NFL’s defensive players, tallying 23 so far. Although this was incredible, Curl is used to showing out the way that he did this past week. He is at the top of the leaderboard when it comes to the Rams defensive team statistics. Between both the 2025 regular season and post season, Kam Curl has racked up 91 tackles. This of course has been the most by a Ram this past regular season and so far in the post season.
Toward the end of the regular season Kam was mic’d up, and during the game he said “I love Shula, I love Chris Shula”. The public might not know exactly what in that moment made Curl want to express his love for the defensive coordinator of the Rams, but you could infer that it has something to do with how much this defense has been able to contribute to this Rams team.
He is the type of player that does the extra work to see where the ball is going before it happens. Rams Head Coach Sean McVay spoke to the ways in which Curl affects the game.
“I mean you look at the play that he made the other day it was unbelievable. I think he’s got a great feel for when he is part of the run fits and just being able to aggressively close space long strides short strides shuffle and shoot.” McVay continued, “you can activate him as a blitzer, so he’s a versatile piece, I thought he was instrumental in how well we played defensively the other day.”
Curl mentioned that his ability to have the kind of production that he’s had comes from the work that he puts into the weight room and having that strength to bring guys to the ground. Curl said, “I feel that’s you know, one of the upsides of my game.” He also spoke to how the rest of this Rams secondary is going to affect their NFC Championship Game this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks. The overall sentiment was that they’re looking to create turnovers. However that might unfold, whether it’s continuing to make those crucial tackles or punching the ball out, they want to create turnovers to get the ball back to their offense.
The Rams conquering the Chicago Bears in the Divisional Round of the playoff wasn’t easy nor pretty, but they got the job done to now be one of four teams left in the race. So time will only tell how this defense will continue to perform as the Rams prepare this week.
“He’s a freaking stud and you know what an unbelievable play by him when we had to have it that was competitive greatness at its finest,” said McVay.
