The Kansas City Chiefs have been a different team the last few seasons, not having won the Super Bowl in the last few seasons, KC has decided to do something about it.

On Wednesday, the Chiefs hired Eric Bieniemy as their offensive coordinator. Hired in 2013, Bieniemy went from running backs coach to the offensive coordinator in 2018. Around that time, he and quarterback Patrick Mahomes began a partnership that spawned multiple trips to AFC championship games and two Super Bowl victories.

When Bieniemy had the controls of the Kansas City offense from 2018-22, the Chiefs ranked in the top 10 of total offense, finishing in the top spot twice (2018 and 2022), ironically enough, two seasons where the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.

Following Bieniemy’s departure, he spent time with the Washington Commanders, returned to college as an assistant at UCLA, and most recently was with the Chicago Bears as running backs coach.

Having returned to Kansas City to reunite with Patrick Mahomes, the pairing will be fighting an uphill battle, as Mahomes is coming back from a torn ACL suffered in December as Kansas City failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2014. In two of the three seasons Mahomes worked without Bieniemy, Mahomes failed to throw for over 4,00 yards passing.
