The Steelers announced on Wednesday night that they’d completed their in-person interview with former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, a Pittsburgh native.
Brian Flores was the team’s other in-person interview, which was conducted on Tuesday, as team president Art Rooney II and general manager Omar Khan continue their search for Mike Tomlin’s successor.
McCarthy has a 174-112-2 record across 18 seasons as an NFL head coach. He beat Tomlin and the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV, the crest of his sideline odyssey.
The Steelers have also had virtual interviews with Chris Shula, Nate Scheelhaase, Jesse Minter, Anthony Weaver, Ejiro Evero and Klay Kubiak. Minter seems to have a strong mutual interest with the Baltimore Ravens.

If the Steelers and McCarthy unite, it could mean another season with Aaron Rodgers behind center. Rodgers has yet to decide what his future holds, as retirement is also in the question for the four-time Associated Press NFL MVP and future Pro Football Hall of Famer.
“I remember talking to Aaron Rodgers in the locker room toward the end of his tenure with the #Jets. Mentioned “wherever Mike McCarthy ends up” as a potential landing spot. Sure sounds like McCarthy is headed to the #Steelers. Wonder if that gets Rodgers back for another year,” SNY’s Connor Hughes wrote earlier this week on X.
Rodgers, 42, passed for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions this past season. Even without a cemented No. 2 wideout, he helped the Steelers’ attack to respectability.
