The Kansas City Chiefs were quick to make changes to their coaching staff after failing to earn a spot in the AFC playoffs earlier this month.

Among the most consequential decisions that the team has made in 2026 is the hiring of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who is set to rejoin the Chiefs after stints with the Washington Commanders, UCLA Bruins, and Chicago Bears.

Bieniemy had previously held the offensive coordinator position in Kansas City under head coach Andy Reid from 2018 until 2022.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to social media to voice his enthusiasm about Bieniemy’s hiring shortly after news of the reunion was officially announced:

While Bieniemy is a proven asset who played a key part in the Chiefs’ dominance in the late 2010s and early 2020s, the veteran coordinator may face headwinds during his first year back in Western Missouri as Kansas City looks to rethink its approach for the 2026 season.
