The Eagles have requested to interview Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle for their OC position, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Doyle, 30, was hired last offseason as the youngest offensive coordinator in the NFL. He could take the Eagles’ OC job because he doesn’t call plays for Chicago, so it wouldn’t be a lateral move.

The Eagles likely want to hire someone with more experience, but the veteran offensive coordinators available are underwhelming.

If the team is willing to take a risk on a young coach instead, Doyle could be their guy. He has learned under offensive genius Ben Johnson and could bring new ideas to Philadelphia.

Declan offers a higher ceiling than other candidates, but a lower floor. Some first-time play callers succeed, while others fail terribly.

The Eagles have fired two first-time play callers, Kevin Patullo and Brian Johnson, in the last three years, so going down that road again would be risky. But an outside candidate could pan out better than those in-house hires.

Not only did Doyle learn from Johnson this season, he has also coached five seasons under offensive guru Sean Payton for two different teams. He was the Broncos’ tight ends coach for two seasons before taking the Chicago job. He joined Denver after spending three seasons (2019-2021) as Payton’s offensive assistant with the Saints.

In 2025, Doyle helped Chicago finish as the sixth best total offense and rank in the top 10 of many other offensive categories.

“Declan has done a phenomenal job this year,” Johnson said about Doyle last week. “He’s everything I thought he was going to be and some. He’s got tremendous presence in front of the players, extremely smart. He’s picked up the offense quickly throughout the spring and camp and has been able to augment it. We’ve got such a strong coaching staff, from the coordinators to position coaches, to some of these young coaches as well. They’re going to continue to ascend, and I think the future’s bright for a guy like Declan. Hopefully we can keep him here for a long time, but I know he’s been an asset to me, he’s been an asset to our offense and all these players as well.”
