Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin will be one of several headline names in a new documentary on the history and meaning of football. The Object of the Game premiers Super Bowl week on Amazon Prime, following along high school legend Chuck “Chico” Kyle after wrapping up 40 years as a head coach in 2022. Intertwined in the video is an exploration of what football really means to all coaches, no matter the level of competition.

Tomlin is one of several current or former head coaches featured in the trailer. There is a brief clip of him setting up for the interview. It takes place in the Steelers’ building, meaning it was recorded before Tomlin stepped down as Pittsburgh’s head coach last week.

In fact, the clips may have been recorded more than a year ago given that Tomlin’s name was connected with the project in January 2025.

Chuck Kyle led Cleveland’s St. Ignatius High School to 11 state titles and four national championships throughout his career. There, he mentored future head coaches like Jonathan Gannon and even current Steelers quarterbacks coach Tom Arth, a St. Ignatius alum who would go on to star, and eventually coach, at nearby John Carroll. In the original trailer, Arth himself is featured making an appearance.

The Northeast Ohio region is a hotbed of coaching talent. The Polian family has deep ties there while the New England Patriots’ tree is full of them, including Josh McDaniels. We outlined many of the area’s notable names shortly after the Steelers hired Arth.

Nearby Miami (OH) is also a football coaching mecca with literal statues to prove it. The “Cradle of Coaches” line the Redhawks’ university featuring Paul Brown, John Harbaugh, Sean McVay, Bo Schembechler, and seven others.

Beyond Tomlin, other coaches featured in the film include Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy, and McVay along Hall of Fame OT Joe Thomas and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The name of the documentary stems from a book Kyle wrote decades earlier.

Per the trailer, the documentary will be released in three parts. Official dates have yet to be announced. Check out the full clip below.
