This could be big. Tyler Shough made the cut as a finalist for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award; the Associated Press has whittled the field down to just five first-year pros who could bring home that coveted trophy, and the New Orleans Saints quarterback is one of them. You can find the full list of this year’s NFL Honors awards finalists right here.

Shough is facing some stiff competition. New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is a popular choice for Offensive Rookie of the Year, while Shough’s NFC Souths rival Tetairoa McMillan (Carolina Panthers) and Emeka Egbuka (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) are also in the mix. We can’t overlook New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson, either, who was a betting favorite for much of the regular season.

But the Saints quarterback may have made the strongest closing argument. Shough led the Saints to four consecutive wins down the stretch and was recognized as the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for December and January. He’s also been selected for the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-Rookie Team and is a finalist for the fan-chosen Pepsi Rookie of the Year award.

Let’s recap his stats one last time. Shough broke a number of Saints rookie passing records by completing 221 of 327 attempts (67.6%) for 2,384 yards, with 10 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. He took 31 sacks and fumbled 3 times, but rushed for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground, too. He showed enough playmaking ability to warrant building around him in 2026. But adding another award to his name like this would go a long way to strengthening confidence in the direction the Saints are going.

We’ll find out who is taking the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award home at the NFL Honors ceremony on Feb. 5, at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The event will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock beginning at 8 p.m. CT/9 p.m. ETE.
