The Atlanta Falcons have been busy assembling their coaching staff over the last week. The team hired Kevin Stefanski as head coach, named Tommy Rees as offensive coordinator, and retained Jeff Ulbrich as the defensive coordinator.

Now that the Falcons have wrapped up their coaching search, they are ramping up their general manager interviews. The team held its first two interviews for the GM vacancy on Thursday, but Atlanta’s prior interviews for the president of football position technically count as well.

Andy Weidl – Steelers assistant GM | Completed interview (Jan. 22 at 5:45 p.m.)

The Falcons interviewed Pittsburgh Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl for their GM vacancy on Thursday evening, the team announced. Wiedl has served his current role as assistant GM since 2022. Prior to that, he spent six years in the Philadelphia Eagles front office (2016-2021).

“Weidl has played an integral role in helping construct rosters that have produced playoff appearances in three of the last four seasons, including two NFC East championships (2017 and 2019) and a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII,” it says on the Philadelphia Eagles team site.

The Steelers and Eagles have been two of the most successful NFL franchises since the start of the 2000s.

James Liipfert – Texans assistant GM | Completed interview (Jan. 22 at 1:45 p.m. ET)

The Falcons completed the first interview for their general manager vacancy, speaking with Houston Texans assistant GM James Liipfert on Thursday. Liipfert, who previously served as the Texans executive director of player personnel and the assistant director of personnel/director of college scouting, was promoted to the assistant GM position in 2025. Houston’s drafting in recent years has helped the team assemble one of the NFL’s top defenses.

“James Liipfert has an awesome reputation and respect within the scouting community for his evaluation skills,” wrote ESPN’s Field Yates. “Really smart dude! He’s done it at both the pro and college level and played a real role in building the best defense in the NFL.”

Mike Bradway – Chiefs assistant GM | Requested interview (Jan. 21)

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Falcons have requested to interview Kansas City Chiefs assistant GM Mike Bradway for their general manager vacancy. “A top lieutenant to GM Brett Veach, Bradway is next in a line of top KC personnel minds to explore a big job,” wrote Rapoport.

Bradway joined Kansas City’s front office in 2018 as an assistant of player personnel. He held that role for three seasons before begin promoted to senior director of player personnel in 2021. Four years later, Bradway was promoted to his current role as the team’s assistant general manager.From 2008-2017, Bradway worked for the Philadelphia Eagles scouting department, forging a relationship with current Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

Ian Cunningham – Bears assistant GM | Requested interview (Jan. 21)

The Falcons previously interviewed Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham for their president of football opening, and will be doing so again for their GM vacancy. Cunningham joined the Bears in the assistant GM role back in 2022. Prior to that, he spent five years with the Philadelphia Eagles (2017-2021), serving as director of player personnel in 2021.

The Bears finished first in the NFC North this season at 11-6, and it has a lot to do with their terrific offseason. Chicago revamped its offensive line, which included signing former Falcons center Drew Dalman in free agency. Dalman went on to make his first career Pro Bowl this season. Cunningham has been a finalist for multiple GM openings over the last year.

Josh Williams – 49ers scouting/football director | Requested interview (Jan. 21)

The Falcons also previously met with Josh Williams for their president of football opening before going with Matt Ryan. The 49ers exec has spent over a decade in San Francisco and has a ton of scouting experience. He is considered a serious contender for Atlanta’s GM opening.

“Williams has been with the 49ers for 15 seasons, starting as an assistant within the scouting department in 2011,” wrote Falcons beat reporter Terrin Waack. “He then served as a pro personnel scout (2013-15), the National Football Scouting representative (2016), an area scout (2017-21) and a national scout (2022-23) until obtaining his most recent role. The 49ers drafted wide receiver Ricky Pearsall at No. 31 overall in 2024 and edge rusher Mykel Williams at No. 11 overall in 2025.”
