Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter is expected to become the next head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, the club announced Thursday.

Minter returns to Baltimore after spending four seasons there as an assistant under John Harbuagh. Georgia State’s defensive coordinator from 2013-16, he joined the club as a defensive assistant in 2017 before a promotion to assistant defensive backs coach in 2019, and then to defensive backs coach in 2020.

Minter then spent 2021 as the defensive coordinator at Vanderbilt before taking the same job at Michigan under Jim Harbaugh. After winning the 2023 national title, Minter joined Harbaugh with the Chargers.

The son of former Cincinnati head coach Rick Minter, Jesse Minter employed his father as a senior defensive analyst at Michigan and LA, and presumably has his first hire already in place in Baltimore.

Minter taking the Ravens job means Harbaugh will replace both coordinators heading into his third year with the Bolts. Former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has already replaced Greg Roman as the club’s offensive coordinator, and now a new defensive coordinator will be hired or promoted to replace Minter.

Minter becomes the fourth member of the NFL’s Hiring Class of 2026, joining Kevin Stefanski (Falcons), Jeff Hafley (Dolphins), and his former boss John Harbaugh (Giants).
