After a brief but meaningful stint with the Philadelphia Eagles, edge rusher Jaelan Phillips is preparing for his first experience with free agency in the NFL, something all players love. However, for Phillips, this could end with him being on his third team in a few months.

Speaking with reporters recently, Phillips admitted he’s still learning how the process works, but made it clear that he’s excited about what’s to come.

“I mean, I don’t really know,” Phillips said, per NJ.com. “It’s up to my agent and ultimately up to me, too. But this is my first experience with it, so I’m not really sure how it plays out, but we’ll see. I’m excited.”

At 26 years old, he’s entering the prime of his career with valuable experience across two organizations, with the Miami Dolphins and his most recent stop in Philadelphia.

While his time with the Eagles wasn’t long-term, it left an impression, both on the field and in the locker room.

“I think it would be difficult, but that’s kind of just what happened with the Dolphins, too,” Phillips said about potentially moving on from the Eagles. “I fit in with those guys very well, was very close with a lot of guys and came (to Philadelphia) and fit in with these guys. So ultimately, I’m confident in myself that wherever I do end up, I’ll be able to make the most out of it.”

Despite multiple injuries in his career, he’s consistently earned respect for his work ethic and ability to get on the field after serious injuries. When healthy, he’s shown he can pressure quarterbacks consistently, something every defense wants.

For teams looking to add pass-rush help, that should help him this spring and summer.

From Philadelphia’s perspective, his departure wouldn’t be due to performance, but rather having to pay others. The Eagles could also bring him back if the two sides can agree on a fair price, though it might be tough to do so given his injuries.

It’s nice to see that Phillips will get a chance to get paid and hopefully, he’ll find a forever home.
