The Detroit Lions have gotten their first-round draft pick under contract, officially inking former Ohio State defensive tackle Tyleik Williams to a four-year deal with a fifth-year club option on Wednesday, according to an announcement from the team.

Williams, whom the Lions selected with the 28th overall pick in April, will make $16.5 million over the next four years, a figure that’s pre-determined according to the rookie wage scale. Williams’ playing time and performance over his first three seasons, as well as other league salaries at the time, will determine the value of his fifth-year club option.

The Lions signed four of their draft picks — offensive guard Miles Frazier, edge rusher Ahmed Hassanein, safety Dan Jackson and wide receiver Dominic Lovett — on the first day of rookie minicamp. They announced the signing of wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa on Tuesday.

Offensive lineman Tate Ratledge, a second-round pick out of Georgia, is the only Lions draft pick who remains unsigned.

With star defensive tackle Alim McNeill (knee) expected to miss significant time next season, Williams will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact in 2025, provided he gets his feet under him quickly.

“I got to get to work. Definitely it’s not going to be handed to me, and I’m ready for that,” Williams said, noting the team’s championship aspirations are something he’s used to after four seasons with the Buckeyes.

“At Ohio State, it’s kind of the same way. We’re built around a great team, and I think I can help in a big way. So whatever they need me to do, I’m here. I’m giving my best.”

On draft night, Lions general manager Brad Holmes said he’s been watching Williams, a two-year starter at Ohio State, “for a really long time” and came away with his “very consistent” play.

“I do think that he’s got a lot of versatility in his game. I think one of the things, not only — he has the physical skillset, he’s got the power. He’s got the bend and the agility,” Holmes said. “He’s a very nimble athlete, but the thing about it is that he’s incredibly instinctive, too.”
