GLENDALE – With half of the NFL head coaching positions filled, the urgency for the Arizona Cardinals increases. Nearly three weeks since the firing of head coach Jonathan Gannon, and general manager Monti Ossenfort has interviewed over a dozen candidates. A recent name that has emerged from the list is former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris.
Morris is one of the few former NFL head coaches that Arizona has interviewed thus far. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler, the limited job openings has only grown the interest between Morris and the Cardinals, but many teams are keeping an eye on the 49-year-old for a different position.

Fowler on Morris’ interest across league:
“Raheem Morris is waiting out head coaching chances – he’s involved in Arizona search – but is expected to have multiple defensive coordinator looks should he not get a head job, per sources. Morris has close ties to Kyle Shanahan (SF), Matt LaFleur (GB) and Dan Quinn (WSH).”

As a head coach, Morris struggled to pile up wins, going 37-56. His real success was as a defensive coordinator, being under Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay. The pair won the Super Bowl in 2021, and with current Los Angeles DC Chris Shula on the job market, Morris could be a stellar replacement.

Other ties include being a coordinator under Dan Quinn in 2020 and being on the same staff as Matt LeFleur and Kyle Shanahan in 2013. Morris has close ties to plenty of coaches looking to beef up their staff. If the Cardinals do want to bring him in to be the 44th head coach in franchise history, they’ll need to be aggressive.
