The Atlanta Falcons completed a fourth interview for their general manager vacancy on Friday afternoon. A few hours after speaking with Chicago Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham, the team interviewed San Francisco 49ers president of scouting and football.
The Falcons previously met with Williams for their president of football opening before going with Matt Ryan. The 49ers exec has spent over a decade in San Francisco and has a ton of scouting experience. Williams has been in San Francisco since 2011, starting as an assistant and serving in various scouting roles from 2011-2023.
The 49ers have been to three Super Bowls and four conference championship games since Williams joined the scouting department. While they haven’t won a Super Bowl, they are seemingly in the mix every season. That’s the kind of consistency that Ryan and team owner Arthur Blank are hoping to bring to Atlanta.
The Falcons have completed four total interviews for their general manager vacancy. On Thursday, the team spoke with Houston Texans assistant GM James Liipfert and Pittsburgh Steelers assistant GM Andy Weidl. Atlanta also interviewed Chicago Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham.
