Another day passes, and strange conversations are being entertained about the NFC East-winning Philadelphia Eagles. Not even one year removed from their second Super Bowl win, they again have a vacancy at offensive coordinator.
This is the second time in three seasons that the previous occupant was terminated for performance or as a scapegoat. This time, however, there’s a twist. The best available talent seems to have no interest in filling the opening.

The Eagles are the only team with a head coach still searching for an OC. There are still varying opinions about how desirable this job truly is.
Regardless of who takes the job, immediate questions will need to be answered. What must be done at the tight end position? Dallas Goedert is nearing free agency, and he isn’t the only Eagles tight end who will do so.
Possible early tight end replacements for Dallas Goedert and others
20 Eagles are slated to enter free agency when the new league year begins. It can be argued that five names represent the top priorities. Dallas Goedert certainly owns one of those names.

Grant Calcaterra and Kylen Granson are also among the Eagles at the end of their current deals. Might the NFL Draft be an option to find replacements? Philadelphia didn’t select any last April. They may this time around. Here are some early options.
Kenyon Sadiq, Oregon Ducks
Replacing Dallas Goedert will be tough if he does walk. If the Eagles want someone with a similar ceiling, they must draft him early. Oregon’s Kenyon Sadiq appears to be the best of the bunch in this draft class.
He isn’t a huge target at six-foot-three and 245 pounds. He’s two inches taller than A.J. Brown and 19 pounds heavier, but he’s also a mismatch for opposing defenses. H snagged 51 receptions for 560 yards and reached the end zone eight times last season.

Max Klare, Ohio State Buckeyes
In keeping with the smaller, tighter end theory, we welcome you to Max Klare’s portion of the discussion. He transferred from the Purdue Boilermakers program this past season to play for the Buckeyes in 2025. That decision culminated in him earning First-Team All-Big Ten honors after being named a Third-Team selection the year before.
Oscar Delp, Georgia Bulldogs
It just doesn’t seem right to have these conversations without mentioning the Georgia Bulldogs. Philadelphia has a few Dawgs on the defensive side of the ball. Here’s one for the offense.
Oscar Delp saw greater offensive production with Brock Bowers playing in front of him in 2023 (24 receptions, 284 yards receiving, and three TDs) than he enjoyed in his swan song this past season (20 receptions, 261 yards, and one TD). He snagged 21 catches for 248 yards and four TDs in 2024, and an argument can be made that he’s consistent at least. He’ll be among the five highest-rated tight ends on everyone’s draft board.

Joe Royer, Cincinnati Bearcats
The Cincinnati Bearcats program has been kind to Philadelphia. Over the years, they’ve given Trent Cole and Jason Kelce to the organization.
Another Bearcat, Brent Celek, is one of the best tight ends in Eagles history. Here’s another that would do work. Joe Royer was a First-Team All-Big 12 nod in 2024 and a Third-Team mention in 2025.
Sam Roush, Stanford Cardinal
Stanford has also been kind to the Birds. The most obvious name to mention here is Zach Ertz, a Super Bowl hero and one of the most accomplished tight ends in franchise history.
Sam Roush is a 2025 Second-Team All-ACC nod. Gosh… Stanford is in the ACC now. What an amazing new world we all live in.

Anyway, here’s something more important to know. Roush played under Frank Reich. The former Eagles assistant was Stanford’s interim head coach in 2025. He’s now the Cardinal’s senior advisor. Roush wasn’t heavily targeted, but he notched 119 receptions, 1,201 yards, and four trips to the end zone in 48 career games. He’ll be on everyone’s draft board at the tight end position.
