The Atlanta Falcons surprised many around the NFL by firing head coach Raheem Morris following their Week 18 win over the New Orleans Saints. While Morris led the team to an overall record of 16-18, his job appeared to be safe after the Falcons won their final four games of the season.
Instead, team owner Arthur Blank cleaned house, dismissing both Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot. Morris may not be out of work for very long, though. The NFL still has four head coach openings available, one of which Morris is reportedly in the mix for.
According to a report from NFL insider Dianna Russini, the Arizona Cardinals consider Morris one of three favorites for their head coaching vacancy.
“Right now the Arizona Cardinals consider Raheem Morris, Anthony Campanile, and Mike LaFleur as their lead candidates, per sources,” Russini posted on Saturday afternoon.
Morris also interviewed with the New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans, but both teams filled their vacancies. The Giants hired head coach John Harbaugh, and the Titans hired former Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

Considering he’s one of the most experienced head coaching candidates available, Morris could be a good fit for a young Cardinals team. Plus, he did lead the Falcons to a win over Arizona in Week 16.
The Falcons took about two weeks to find their replacement for Morris, officially naming Kevin Stefanski the 20th head coach in franchise history last weekend. Stefanski retained defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich from Morris’ staff and hired Tommy Rees as the team’s new offensive coordinator.
Atlanta has yet to introduce Stefanski, and the team still needs to hire a new general manager. The Falcons have interviewed six candidates for their GM vacancy, including former Jets general manager Joe Douglas and Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham.
