The Washington Commanders are losing a staff member of 24 years.
Tim Gribble, Director of College Scouting for the Commanders, is leaving after 24 seasons with Washington. News broke on Saturday morning, first by Aaron Wilson. Gribble is reportedly leaving Washington to join the Pittsburgh Steelers’ scouting department.
Before making any assumptions, we know that prior to coming to the Redskins in 2002, Gribble spent two seasons with the Steelers scouting department. In addition, Gribble played his college ball at Duquesne and is from the Pittsburgh area.
A gifted athlete, Gribble was a two-sport college athlete, playing both football and baseball for Duquesne, and also earned dual degrees in psychology and sociology, according to his biography on the Commanders website. Upon graduation, he coached at his alma mater from 1996-2000.
After the next two years serving as an assistant in the Steelers’ scouting department, Gribble came to Washington in 2002. For 11 seasons, Gribble was an area scout for the Redskins, before being promoted to assistant director of college scouting. Next he was elevated to Director of College Scouting in 2020, as he has served since that promotion.
