Brian Flores

Brian Flores entered the 2026 offseason without a job as his contract as the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator had come to an end. The Vikings weren’t going to just let him walk away, and this led to them signing him to a contract extension. While Flores is under a new contract with the Vikings, it hasn’t stopped teams from continuing to reach out to see if they can snag him as their next head coach.

*Prediction*

With Brian Flores in just a defensive coordinator role, if he gets offered a head coaching position, he will most likely accept it, and the team that makes the most sense to end up hiring Flores is the Buffalo Bills.

Brian Flores Leaving Vikings to Become Buffalo Bills Head Coach

The Buffalo Bills are searching for a new head coach after they fired their head coach in Sean McDermott. With Josh Allen in the prime of his career, the Bills need to nail this next head coach hire to make sure they capitalize on this while possible.

With having an established quarterback like Josh Allen, they don’t necessarily need an offensive-minded head coach, and instead could go back to having a defensive-minded head coach who can help re-establish an aggressive culture in Buffalo, and get the defense back on track. The ideal head coach at this stage in the hiring process would be Brian Flores.

Brian Flores hasn’t been a head coach since 2021 when everything went bad with the Miami Dolphins. For Flores, after he was fired, it took him some time to get another chance in any capacity in the NFL. It was the Pittsburgh Steelers that finally took the chance on him and hired him as their senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach.

After Pittsburgh, he was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings in 2023, and has completely turned the unit around since he took over. Since 2023, the Vikings have gone on to have the 13th-ranked defense, all while averaging 27 turnovers and 46 sacks a season since he took over as well.

The ability to not stand for any shenanigans, and just focus on building a strong culture with an aggressive mindset is exactly what the Bills would need to propel them further throughout the playoffs. Flores would keep the winning production stable, but would also bring a new edge to the team that they have been missing.
