Former SEMO QB signs with arena football team

  • January 25, 2026

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – Paxton DeLaurent has made it clear that he’s willing to go play anywhere to continue his pro football dream.

The former SEMO Redhawk took a major step Saturday, signing with the Orlando Pirates.

The Pirates compete in the Indoor Football League, the nation’s largest arena football league. Formerly the Massachusetts Pirates, the team relocated to Orlando in November, with their debut season in Florida set for this March.

DeLaurent is one of two quarterbacks on the Pirates’ roster, the other being Taulia Tagovailoa, former Maryland quarterback, and brother of current Miami Dolphins QB, Tua Tagovailoa.

DeLaurent has been in Florida for the past several weeks, training with quarterback trainer Ken Mastrole in preparation for the UFL Draft. DeLaurent spoke on his preparation earlier this month, noting that if the UFL didn’t have a spot, he’d pursue a football opportunity, whether in the U.S., Canada, or even Europe.

Now set to play arena ball, DeLaurent’s set to stay in the Sunshine State, ahead of the Pirates’ regular season.

Orlando opens the season on March 22, on the road against the New Mexico Chupacabras.

The Pirates’ home opener is set for April 5, against the Quad City Steamwheelers.
