The New England Patriots released wide receiver Trent Sherfield one day before an AFC Championship game showdown with the Denver Broncos.
Sherfield (6-1, 206 pounds) spent the first two and a half months of the regular season in Denver before being cut. New England picked him up 11 days ahead of the AFC title game (three days before the matchup with the Broncos was set). After nearly two weeks of practice with the team, Sherfield has now been cut by the Pats.
Meanwhile, a pair of Buffalo Bills defenders were fined by the NFL for infractions against the Broncos in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Bills pass rusher Joey Bosa was fined $17,389 for a late shove on quarterback Bo Nix that drew a flag for roughing the passer. Additionally, cornerback Tre’Davious White was fined $14,222 for unsportsmanlike conduct (removing his helmet) after being penalized for pass interference.
Denver’s considered a home underdog against New England. Sunday’s game (1:00 p.m. MT) will be nationally televised on CBS (more TV info).
