It didn’t take long for Sam Ngata’s visit with Oregon football to result in a commitment.

The son of legendary Ducks defensive lineman Haloti Ngata announced his decision on Saturday to follow on his father’s footsteps, verbally committing to Oregon.

Sam Ngata is visiting Oregon as part of two scheduled “junior days” recruiting weekends for the Ducks. A three-star prospect in the Class of 2027 according to 247Sports, he is ranked the No. 48 linebacker in the country and No. 7 overall player in the state of Utah.

The 6-4, 215-pound linebacker out of Salt Lake City also considered California, Michigan and BYU before making his verbal commitment to Dan Lanning and Oregon.

Oregon defensive coordinator Chris Hampton and defensive line coach Tony Tuioti both visited Sam at his high school in Utah on Wednesday, when he initially announced his plans to visit Eugene.

Haloti Ngata was a dominant defensive tackle for the Ducks between 2002 and 2005, and recently entered the College Football Hall of Fame.

Picked No. 12 overall in the NFL Draft by Baltimore, he spent 13 seasons in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, winning a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2013 and earning Pro Bowl recognition five times.
