The bad news? The New York Jets probably won’t land a quarterback with the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
The good news? They can pick the best non-quarterback in the entire draft class.
That leaves Jets general manager Darren Mougey with a plethora of options.
Many analysts and fans are expecting the team to select an edge rusher with the second overall pick. Whether it’s Miami’s Rueben Bain, Ohio State’s Arvell Reese, or Texas Tech’s David Bailey, the Jets have plenty of tantalizing options.
But what if they throw a curveball?
It cannot be ruled out that the Jets might take a player whom only 7.5% of fans want to see drafted second overall: Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate.
Buckeye receivers have taken over the NFL, from Jaxon Smith-Njigba to Chris Olave to the Jets’ very own Garrett Wilson. Tate figures to be the next great Ohio State pass-catcher to make his mark at the pro level.
A five-star recruit from the IMG Academy in Florida, Tate carved out a role in the Buckeyes’ offense as a true freshman and did not look back. In 2025, his true junior season, Tate posted 51 receptions for 875 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound wideout only recently turned 21 years old. He has established himself as the consensus WR1 in the 2026 draft class.
But is he special enough to justify the Jets selecting him second overall, especially above all of the aforementioned EDGE prospects?
We’re here to find out in the latest Blewett’s Blitz film review.
Below is the full Carnell Tate scouting report (strengths and weaknesses) and film review.
