Patriots vs. Broncos: The matchup
The Patriots are AFC Championship Game-bound for the first time since the Bill Belichick/Tom Brady split six years ago, riding a new-look roster driven by second-year star quarterback Drake Maye and former Patriot Mike Vrabel in his first season as head coach. New England wrapped the regular season with a 14-3 record, won the AFC East Division, and secured the No. 2 seed in the postseason. New England opened the AFC Playoffs with a 16-3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card round and last week intercepted quarterback C.J. Stroud four times in a 28-16 win over the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round.

The Broncos beat the Buffalo Bills in dramatic fashion with a 33-30 overtime thriller they ended with a walkoff field goal by Will Lutz that also proved costly. The play to set up that field goal was a quarterback knee designed to position the ball on the hashes, which Broncos quarterback Bo Nix executed but had a Bills defender land on his ankle and break it, ending his playoff season when it had just started. Denver is expected to turn to backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham to face the team that drafted him. He will be tasked with leading an offense likely to be built around the run game anchored by R.J. Harvey, Jaleel McLaughlin and, potentially, J.K. Dobbins.
