After they were eliminated from the playoffs, the San Francisco 49ers lost defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, as he left to become the head coach of the Tennessee Titans.
Now, it appears Saleh is poaching the first of what could be several coaches from San Francisco’s coaching staff, with NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco reporting that assistant defensive line coach Greg Scruggs will join Saleh in Tennessee as defensive line coach.
Scruggs, 35, spent five years in the NFL as a defensive end, playing for the Seattle Seahawks (2012-15), Chicago Bears (2015-16) and New England Patriots (2016).
He began coaching in 2018 as director of player development with the University of Cincinnati. He jumped to the NFL as an assistant defensive line coach under Saleh’s staff with the New York Jets in 2022 and joined the 49ers in 2025.
