FORMER NFL coach Arthur Smith is on the verge of being appointed as the new offensive coordinator of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The 43-year-old leaves the Pittsburgh Steelers in favor of a move to college football.

It comes after Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach earlier this month.
Several NFL teams allegedly held an interest in speaking to Smith about their head coach and offensive coordinator vacancies.
The Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans reportedly wanted him for their head coach positions.
But Smith turned down interest from the NFL to join the Ohio State Buckeyes.

A deal for the move is currently being finalised.
Before his spell with the Steelers, Smith spent three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons as their head coach.
He was also with the Tennessee Titans for almost a decade in various coaching positions.
The former Steelers man started his career in college football with the University of North Carolina and the University of Mississippi.

Smith will join Ryan Day at Ohio State. The Buckeyes were crowned national champions 12 months ago.
However, they were eliminated by the Miami Hurricanes in the quarter-finals this time around.
The Steelers have verbally agreed a deal with Mike McCarthy to be their new head coach.
The former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys leader has been without a coaching job in 2025.
But he will replace Tomlin in a major shake-up in Pittsburgh.
