After a disappointing 3-9 season, Colorado football went back to the drawing board, bringing in 42 transfers to fill out a renovated roster.
That sets a challenging task ahead for Deion Sanders and his revamped staff: they must set a tone that unites his team for the upcoming season. Sanders is not waiting around to do so; he is introducing new rules for his team that he hopes will set it on the right path. The first new rule, released in a video by Sanders’ son, Deion Sanders Jr., is simple: don’t wear your former team’s gear.
“That would be like your lady who you have currently wearing her ex-boyfriend’s stuff. How do you feel about that? She is sitting up here with a shirt on that has her ex’s name,” Deion Sanders said to his team. “That’s how I feel about that when I see you coming to the cafeteria. You eat our food with your last team on it? Obviously, if you wanted to stay there, you should have stayed.”
In addition to the no former team gear rule, Sanders also issued more rules for his team, including no phones, food, or drink in team meetings; treating women with respect; and no swearing outside the team meeting room.
“Profanity needs to stop,” Sanders said. “I heard it myself, especially in the dining area. It needs to stop. We’re not the only ones in the cafeteria.”

Colorado’s 42 transfers are the third-most in the Big 12 Conference, leaving much work for Sanders to set a standard that will resonate with an entirely new roster.
