Texans’ quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson is set to interview for the Eagles offensive coordinator job

The Houston Texans once again fell short in the playoffs, as they were eliminated in the divisional round by the New England Patriots. As a result, it’s back to the drawing board for the Texans, but before they can focus on retooling their team this offseason, they first may have to deal with a couple of losses to their coaching staff.

The coaching carousel across the NFL has been absolutely wild so far, and while the head coach news gets most of the attention, there are some high-profile offensive and defensive coordinator openings, too. The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the more intriguing offensive coordinator jobs open, and it looks like they are going to speak to Houston’s quarterbacks coach, Jerrod Johnson, about the position.

Eagles Set to Interview Jerrod Johnson for Offensive Coordinator Opening

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to search for their next offensive coordinator. They are set to speak with Houston Texans QBs coach Jerrod Johnson.

Johnson spent one season in 2020 with Nick Sirianni on Indy’s offensive staff.

After losing Kellen Moore to the New Orleans Saints last offseason, the Eagles tabbed Kevin Patullo as their new offensive coordinator for the 2025 campaign. The offense never got rolling under Patullo’s watch, though, and shortly after Philly was eliminated from the playoffs, it was revealed he would not be returning for the 2026 season as the team’s offensive coordinator.

After missing out on their top target, Mike McDaniel, the Eagles have been forced to pivot and look at other candidates. Johnson has quickly emerged as an option, as he has developed a reputation for being skilled at working with quarterbacks. During his time with the Texans, Johnson has helped turn C.J. Stroud into one of the top options under center across the league.

While Stroud hasn’t exactly been at his best over the past two seasons, Johnson’s work with him has earned him quite a few fans across the NFL. That includes Philly, as the team is set to interview Johnson for its vacant offensive coordinator position, making him the latest target in its widespread search for Patullo’s replacement.

“The Philadelphia Eagles continue to search for their next offensive coordinator. They are set to speak with Houston Texans QBs coach Jerrod Johnson,” Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported in a post on X. “Johnson spent one season in 2020 with Nick Sirianni on Indy’s offensive staff.”

Johnson may seem like an outside-the-box candidate, and that’s because he is. The Eagles already have a star quarterback in Jalen Hurts, although similar to Stroud, he endured a bit of a rough 2025 campaign. The thing that could give Johnson a leg up on the competition is that he has familiarity with Philadelphia’s head coach, Nick Sirianni, as they worked together during his time as the Indianapolis Colts‘ offensive coordinator.

Houston is hoping to build off of what it accomplished in 2025, rather than start from scratch. Losing Johnson, whether it be to the Eagles or another team, would make things even tougher on Stroud, which is pretty much the last thing Houston wants right now. The good news is that Johnson likely isn’t the frontrunner for this gig, but his status suddenly bears watching as Philly sorts through its offensive coordinator candidates.
