The Bills could be set to lose offensive coordinator Joe Brady to the Raiders

The Buffalo Bills have been very busy since they were eliminated from the playoffs by the Denver Broncos in their divisional round matchup. After firing head coach Sean McDermott in the wake of their latest playoff failures, the Bills have embarked on a head coach search that has seen several different big-name candidates emerge as potential targets.

Perhaps one of the most overlooked candidates in this search is Buffalo’s offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Despite his success with the Bills’ offense over the past few years, Brady doesn’t appear to be a frontrunner for the team’s head coach opening. The same thing can’t be said when it comes to the Las Vegas Raiders‘ job, though, and after a big development, it looks like Buffalo could be at risk of losing Brady this offseason.

Joe Brady Completes Second Head Coach Interview with the Raiders

Brady latched on with the Bills in 2022 as the team’s quarterbacks coach, and midway through the 2023 season, he ended up becoming the team’s interim offensive coordinator. Brady’s work with Josh Allen and the offense ended up earning him the full-time gig in 2024, and he’s helped Allen take his game to another level during his time in charge of the offense.

It’s clear that Allen and Brady have a good relationship, which is important when it comes to Buffalo’s head coach search (Allen is reportedly playing a big role in determining who the team’s next leader will be). And yet, Buffalo doesn’t appear too inclined to turn to Brady as its next head coach, which isn’t a surprise given the team’s desire to move away from McDermott’s tenure with the team.

Whether or not Brady would stick around as the team’s offensive coordinator if he is passed over for the head coach job is unknown. It may not even end up being something the Bills have to worry about, though, because the Raiders announced that they completed their second head coach interview with Brady on Monday afternoon.

“Raiders now have completed a second head coaching interview with Bills OC Joe Brady,” Adam Schefter of ESPN shared in a post on X.

Right now, it seems like the NFL is waiting for the Bills to hire a new head coach. The Raiders, however, could throw a wrench in that theory by simply going out and hiring Brady. Considering how the team also interviewed Denver Broncos passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Davis Webb on Monday, it seems unlikely Las Vegas is ready to pull the trigger just yet.

Buffalo could very well move on from Brady once it hires its new head coach, but in the event it wants to keep him around, this development could be particularly worrisome for the team. Brady’s status has suddenly become a very important storyline to keep tabs on, not just because of his current role with the team, but also because of what it could mean for the Bills’ head coach search.
